Rotary International District 3271 (Sindh & Balochistan) Annual Conference was held from March 23-25, 2018 at Mövenpick Hotel, Karachi. The purpose of the conference was to highlight the important issues facing our society and the good work Rotary is doing in Pakistan to help the nation overcome these issues.

Rotary International President’s Representatives from Canada, Rotary International District 3271 Governor, Ovais Ahmed Kohari, District Governor Elect & Conference Chair, Irfan Qureshi along with Past District Governors and more than 500 Rotarians & people from every walk of life from across Pakistan attended the conference.

and other prominent speakers from the corporate sector, civil society and businessmen shared their views at the conference.

District team members were awarded shields of appreciation for their year long dedication, service and commitment to Rotary.

House of Friendship was setup at the conference for promoting regional crafts and was open to general public. The House of Friendship was highly appreciated by the people attending the conference as well the invitees.

Rotary has been established with the mission of Service Above Self.

Rotary across the globe has been at the forefront of socio-economic development, polio eradication, health, education, environment and promotion of peace.


Rotary Pakistan “Total Literacy and Quality Education in Pakistan” concert with Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan in Karachi.”


Rotary Pakistan recently hosted a fund raising concert with world renowned singer Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan at D.H.A. Golf Club Karachi for supporting Literacy and Education in Pakistan.

Rotary Pakistan Literacy Mission (RPLM) has adopted more than 100 government schools in Karachi in the first phase of their mission of “Total Literacy and Quality Education”.

These schools will be remodeled by undertaking extensive work on teacher training, child development and infrastructure development. They will be brought at par with private school to meet the ever evolving educational needs of our society.

In his opening remarks District Literacy Chair, Sindh & Baluchistan PDG Iqbal Qureshi emphasized the importance of literacy in the region and the objectives of Rotary International. He highlighted, Rotary’s achievements and the contribution in improving the lives of the people in Pakistan.

Chairman, Rotary Pakistan Literacy Mission, PDG Muhammad Faiz Kidwai briefed the audience on the RPLM T.E.A.C.H. program, its working, goals and objectives. He highlighted the importance of the fund raiser which is held to support the literacy cause. He thanked the audience for their support and appreciated the services of the organizing partner, Rapido by calling their CEO, Syed Kashif Rafi and RCK Darakhshan President, Waqar Ahmed Shaikh on stage and acknowledged their efforts.

District Governor Nominee, Rtn. Irfan Qureshi delivered the appreciation note and thanked all the partners, sponsors, Rotarians, Rotractors, volunteers and especially the audience for being there.

The event was hosted by Mr. Salman Ahmed, CEO PME World and Ayesha Sana who emphasized the importance of literacy in Pakistan and also praised the efforts of the maestro Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for supporting Rotary and literacy in Pakistan.

The maestro Ustad Rahat Fateh Ali Khan mesmerized the audience who were present in thousands with his melodious performance.

When we talk about Pakistanis abroad, we rarely bring up the accomplishments of musicians or other artists. (No, Zayn Malik doesn’t count.)

The conversation usually revolves around doctors and entrepreneurs doing great work and creating positive buzz for the rest of the Pakistani community. Like, how often do we get to say: ‘Hey, you know that Pakistani guy that worked on the score for a bunch of Hollywood films with Hans Zimmer?’

Meet Taurees Habib, a 28-year-old Karachiite who did just that.

Pakistani students bring home the Bronze at Microsoft Office World Championship

Pakistani students are on fire!

Recently, two Pakistani students won the Bronze medal at the Microsoft Office World Championship. This Championship is an annual event conducted by Microsoft which tests a student’s expertise in Word, Powerpoint, and Excel using both the 2010 and 2013 versions.

To appear in this championship, hundreds of students from all over Pakistan are rigorously trained for the Microsoft Office Specialist Certification Test. This year, the top 118 students were selected to appear in the national championship held in Islamabad during June. Top six students from the local event were then selected to form the national team to represent Pakistan in the Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship held in Orlando, Florida from 7th to 10th August 2016.

Sumail Hassan’s Team Places 3rd at DOTA Tournament, Wins $2 Million


Sumail Hassan’s team, Evil Geniuses, bagged $2 million at the DOTA The International ’16 which concluded over the weekend.

Originally from Karachi, Sumail moved to Chicago to play DOTA on faster internet connections and lower pings. He shot to fame by doing exceptionally well in the North American in-house gaming league.

This caught the attention of one of the biggest e-gaming team, Evil Geniuses. He was eventually recruited by the team manager, who himself had been a DOTA 2 player in the past. The rest is, as they say, history.

Music and in particular patriotic songs, have the ability to sum up a nation’s mood, its feeling and its sentiments in catchy melodies. Historic patriotic songs like those during the 60s boosted the army’s morale in the war that rallied the nation. Years later, songs became the driving force behind Pakistan’s sports campaigns in Hockey, Cricket and Squash championships.

Six Pakistani startups are on their way to the US for an entrepreneurship exchange programme


Six Pakistani startups will travel to Austin, Texas in October to take part in the ATX-PAK Launch Entrepreneurship Program, according to the MIT Technology Review Pakistan.,, ClubInternet, MangoBaaz, and Virgin Teez are all a part of Plan X, a technology accelerator, run by the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB).

The programme, which spans a total of three weeks, is a collaboration between Plan9 and the city of Austin. Six startups are selected every six months on the basis of an evaluated application and a series of interviews for a challenging session of mentoring and training in a Texas incubator.

4 Pakistani entrepreneurs launch innovative tech-leather products on Kickstarter


Pakistan is quite famous for its leather products. In past, several startups have taken the indigenous products made in Pakistan to international crowdfunding platform Kickstarter and have raised several hundred thousand dollars successfully.

RockDove is another such startup which is using leather to make products of wide-range including tote, briefcase, wallet, clutch wallet, traveler’s wallet, a camera sling and a baggage tag. The products, although, appear to be traditional yet they are technology based.

Simply said, the products come with a built-in Bluetooth chip which is connected with a smartphone to keep a track of the product and hence the belongings in it as well. The Bluetooth device is mounted on a flexible board discreetly tucked away in each of its products. Although hidden from plain view, it allows users to track their most essential belongings via smartphone or tablet.

Pakistani startup, Patari, grabs 2nd position at World Startup Cup 2016


Pakistan’s popular music streaming startup Patari has secured 2nd position at World Startup Cup 2016, held in Washington DC from 3rd – 5th August.

The first place has been secured by GoMobile, a Moroccon startup that allows disadvantaged people to personalized content via mobile phone. The third prize went to an Armenian startup by the name of HY Pictures which is a media productions company. The winning startups competed with over 1,000 startups which were shortlisted after 65 national level championships to participate in the global edition.

Patari is a music streaming website boasting a database of more than 15,000 songs; the biggest ever collection available online in Pakistan, including both mainstream music and underground scene.
